A hospital. Grey stainless steel.
Steel bed. Electronic apparatus.
Someone lies on the bed.
The bed is small, desk-sized,
and the body is small too
It is boneless, split open from
forehead down its body.
It has a face. I don't look at it.
Lifeline beeps and is erratic.
Doctors operate on it.
Defilbrators. Jerk. Jerk. Beep.
Body twitches and doesn't move again.
Efficiently the doctors bring
a tank: Things float in the saline.
Scapels and tweezers produced.
Doctor and nurse begin to pick
the skin off, meticulous.
Skin goes in the green/grey water.
I look in the water.
(They are not fetuses.)
(They are not alive.)
Little bodies suspended,
eyes swollen and shut,
arms folded in a cross.
(Recycling. Nothing is wasted.)
The doctor puts the
mangled meat into the tank.
It attracts the skin and
begins to form into a body again.
I scream. Scream. Run.
